Neighbourhood Watch
Neighbourhood WatchOne of the ways to make your community safer is to join a Neighbourhood Watch scheme. Neighbourhood Watch is the largest voluntary organisation within the UK, with an estimated 10 million people involved. Neighbourhood Watch is about people working together to make their communities safer and more pleasant places to live and work. The aim of Neighbourhood Watch is to help people protect themselves and their properties, reduce fear of crime and improve their local environment. New Community Beat Manager (Community Constable)This article gives me a chance to introduce myself as the Community Beat Manager for Edenthorpe, Kirk Sandall and Barnby Dun. It also allows me an opportunity to report on happenings and events occurring in the Kirk Sandall area and to update residents and make them aware of incidents of note. Although new to the post, I have nine years experience in operational Police duties, most of which has been spent covering the Doncaster East area. While Kirk Sandall suffers less than certain other areas, it still has its fair share of crime. Crime statistics show a range of crime occurring throughout the Gardinia Road and Parkwood Rise areas to a recent spate of theft from motor vehicles in Graham Road, Ashton Drive and Denehall Road areas. In recent weeks, distraction burglaries have taken place in King Georges Square area of Kirk Sandall with offender(s) using various ploys to gain access into your houses, usually occupied by OAP's. Residents are reminded that all genuine public service officials will always carry identification so please ensure that you ask to see it before you let anybody into your home. I look forward to future publications and the change to keep you updated and aware of what's happening in and around Kirk Sandall. PC 3441 Nicky Fulton FireworksSeptember and the fireworks season will soon be upon us. Many of you will have been disturbed by massive bangs from huge fireworks being let off at all times of the year and the nuisance caused by some youngsters who think that throwing fireworks around the village is good fun. However relief is here. A strict new fireworks curfew carrying the threat of a £5,000 fine and six months in jail came into effect on December 22nd 2003. The ban on letting fireworks between 11pm and 7am is part of a package of measures to clamp down on anti-social behaviour. Exceptions have been made for special occasions, with new year revellers along with those celebrating Diwali and the Chinese new year given until 1am. But November 5th bonfire displays must be over by midnight, under the new laws.
